Language of Business and the Professions
This course promotes the study of common terminology and documentation
for the various aspects of business as conducted in the Hispanic
World.
Course objectives:
1. to develop the student's cultural and geographical awareness by using maps or
other visual aids including key information about demographics, industry, imports,
exports and communications
2. to identify Spanish abbreviations and acronyms used in business, aswell as
conversion tables for metric weighs and measures
3. to encourage proper Spanish pronounciation (oral presentations), improve writing
skills (letter writing), review grammar, review vocabulary and introduce new business
terminology related to commercial Spanish
4. to point out cultural nuances in the dialogues and encourage cross-cultural
comparisons with business practices in the USA
5. to teach students practical computer skills essential in international business
communications by preparing a final project on a Latin country of their choice,
including: demographics, customs, commerce, cultural and other data and aspects to
be considered when doing business with that specific
country-and to enter this information in the WWW at UT Martin, through the Globe-Gate
Project, established and directed by Professor Robert Peckham (TennesseeBob) for
the Department of Modern Foreign Languages. In point of fact, students whose projects appear on this site, Sharley Barfield, Victoria
Cazares, Michel Del Bosco, Jonathan Rymer, Stephaine Schuman, and Kisa
Waddell, are its co-creators and official Globe-Gate consultants
