L'Alliance Française @ Globe-Gate
The Alliance Française is a non-profit organization, founded in 1883, which now has over
1100 offices
Founded in 1883, the Alliance Française has over 1100 chapters in 132 countries . There are 141 chapters in the United States, with over 30,000 members. Its goals are the dissemination of French language and culture, which it does through classes, lectures, exhibitions, other cultural events, scholarships, etc. The 800 teaching chapters worldwide reach nearly 380,000 students of French per year (from 158 different countries) in a variety of ways. Though the organization is headquartered in Paris, each official office is registered with its host country and administered by a local committee, representing cultural, scientific and economic interests. The organization provides a way for French citizens to meet their fellow French and others with an interest in the French community. Globe-Gate's purpose in gathering nearly 290 links representing the Alliance Française world-wide is to allow easy access to all programs, permitting an informed exchange of ideas among members from different geographic regions. Finally, we have listed some well-known exams for validating the knowledge and proficiencies gained during a study of French, whether with the Alliance Française or another organization.
